In a major development a huge cache of arms was seized when Pakistan Customs authorities foiled a bid to smuggle the ammunition from the neighboring country Afghanistan to Pakistan at the Torkham border on Monday.
The customs authorities sprung into action on a tip off that a huge cache of Russian and Turkiye-made arms were being smuggled to Pakistan from Afghanistan in a container carrying coal.
Pakistan Customs authorities stopped the container at Torkham Border and during the search found weapons in large quantity concealed in the vehicle. The arms and ammunition, as the officials say, include sophisticated weapons.
The Afghan driver of the container was arrested and handed over to the police for further action. The weapons and explosives, as the officials conceived, were meant to be supplied to people in various cities of the country to carry out subversive activities in order to worsen the law and order situation and create unrest in Pakistan.
