Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Inam Ghani has said that hectic efforts are being made by the Punjab Police to trace and arrest the accused involved in violence and assault on a woman in Greater Iqbal Park.
“Operations are being carried out in other districts as well to trace the accused and scope of the police investigation has been expanded to unfold all facts that led to the unfortunate incident.
In this regard, police teams carried out raids in Faisalabad, Kasur and Sheikhupura last night and arrested 26 more accused.”
The IG Police said that the Police have been utilising all available resources and working day and night to trace the accused.
“Culprits are being traced through geo-fencing, Nadra records, CCTV footage and with the help of other evidences and modern technology”, Inam Ghani informed and adding that arrests of accused the accused have been made different districts. “
Police have so far interrogated 407 suspects in connection with the tragic incident, of whom 92 have been arrested while the rest have been released. Of the arrested accused, 40 have been sent to jail for identification parade while another 30 will be sent today.”
The IG Police directed the officers to intensify efforts to identify the remaining accused and arrest them as soon as possible.
He said that best possible steps are being taken to ensure safety of women and strict legal action would be taken against the perpetrators of harassment, violence and abuse against women in all cases.
He further said that the media will also be kept informed of the progress made in the Chung Chi rickshaw abuse case of a woman.
“Journalists and the public are requested not to spread any news or information without confirmation, however, if the public has any information about any such incident, immediately inform the police.”
The IG Police said that Punjab Police will spare no effort in arresting all the accused involved in these tragic incidents and they will be sentenced by the court.
