LAHORE – Heavy rainfall on Thursday broke a 44-year-old record in Punjab capital city of Lahore as it received 350 millimetres in just three hours.

Several low-laying areas including Tajpura, China Scheme and Lakshmi Chowk are submerged due to heavy rains, which started early in the morning.

The rainwater on roads has also disrupted traffic as people are facing trouble while commuting on the inundated roads. Furthermore, electricity supply has also been suspended in several areas of the city.

Meanwhile, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sheikhupura, Pakpattan, Kasur, Jehlum, and several other cities of the country also received rain.

The Met Office has predicted torrential monsoon rains in the country from August 1 to 6 with occasional gaps.

Met office informed that strong monsoon currents are likely to penetrate from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal in upper parts from 31st July (night) and then in central and southern parts from 02nd August.

Under the influence of this weather system, rain wind/thundershower (scattered heavy with isolated very heavyfalls) are expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar and Mianwali from 1st to 6th August with occasional gaps.
