BEIJING – Hamas announced on Tuesday that it had reached an agreement in Beijing with various Palestinian factions, including longtime rival Fatah, aimed at fostering “national unity”.
The Chinese officials described the agreement as a framework to jointly govern Gaza once current hostilities cease.
During the talks hosted by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Hamas official Musa Abu Marzuk and Fatah envoy Mahmud al-Aloul, along with representatives from 12 other Palestinian groups, agreed to establish an “interim national reconciliation government” for post-conflict governance in Gaza.
“We are signing today a national unity agreement, reaffirming our commitment to this path. National unity is our goal and we urge its realization,” said Abu Marzuk following the discussions with Wang and other delegates.
