LAHORE – After administrative changes in the Pakistan Cricket Board, the role of Muhammad Hafeez as the Director of Cricket is in danger, the sources revealed on Thursday.
The latest reports suggest that former Test captain was explicitly informed by the top officials of the board that his services would not be required in the near future.
Muhammad Hafeez, 43, was appointed as the Director of Cricket during the tour of Australia in December 2023.
However, even before the conclusion of the tour to New Zealand, Chairman of the PCB Management Committee Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf resigned from his position which resulted in Muhammad Hafeez losing his position within the board.
Muhammad Hafeez’s performance during Zaka Ashraf’s chairmanship caused significant concern among some officials of the board.
This concern became evident when, at the conclusion of the tour, Muhammad Hafeez was supposed to present detailed media briefings but failed to do so.
Following a meeting with the acting Chairman PCB, it became apparent that CEO Salman Naseer and Director International Osman Wahla were not entirely satisfied with Muhammad Hafeez’s performance.
Amidst all these developments, the latest addition occurred when, despite efforts, Muhammad Hafeez could not secure a meeting with the new PCB Chairman Mohsin Raza Naqvi.
Despite repeated attempts to contact Chairperson Nabeela and Director Media Aaliya Rashid at the Chairman’s office, no motivating response was received.
