KARACHI – Federal Minister for Finance Muhammad Aurangzeb said that they were going for a big program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“The talks with the IMF will be held on April 14 and 15,” confirmed the finance minister while addressing a ceremony held at Karachi Stock Exchange on Friday.
He stated that the meeting with the IMF would be held in Washington, and that they would continue micro economic stability with the Fund.
Minister Aurangzeb hoped that there would be the economic stability due to the best policies.
Stock market, he said, had an important role for the betterment of the economy. The matters apparently showed that the stock market was going in the right direction.
He said, “I’m happy that I’m visiting the market right at this moment when it is making records,”.
In the agriculture sector, the finance minister said that the growth rate was 5 per cent because production of wheat and rice is quite good.
Muhammad Aurangzeb also said that they were working for reforms in the FBR and their main objective is to stop tax leakages.
The minister said that the cases worth billions of rupees were pending and they just wanted timely disposal.
He also mentioned the need for reforms in the energy sector as well.
Muhammad Aurangzeb said that due to the efforts of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his SBA agreement lowered the inflation rate.
“The working is underway to outsource the airports and to privatize the PIA. Aleem Khan alone cannot do privatization as other ministries also need to work in this regard, “ said the minister.
He said the process to privatize the PIA had started, because the government could not do the businesses.
