The federal government’s refusal to accept the Punjab government’s demand of deploying Rangers in Lahore till March 22 during the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan was due to the disagreement by the General Headquarters (GHQ).
It is learnt that the Military Operations (MO) Directorate, GHQ, did not agree to deploy Rangers in Lahore till March 22. The GHQ had proposed the deployment of Rangers in Lahore from March 12 to 15 as the second-tier quick response force.
The MO Directorate, GHQ, had been consulted regarding the deployment of Rangers in Lahore.Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had approved the GHQ’s proposal before the federal cabinet.The summary of deploying Rangers was approved by the cabinet through circulation after the prime minister’s permission.
The federal cabinet approved the deployment of Rangers in Lahore from March 12 to 15.The Punjab government had requested the deployment of Rangers in Lahore from March 11 to March 22.
The Punjab government had sought the services of Rangers to maintain law and order in the city.
