Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi has approved the physical remand of four suspects, including a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) official, in connection with a short-term kidnapping case. The suspects, identified as Umar (a CTD official), Asher, Muzammil, and Rehman, were presented before the court by the investigation officer, who sought their physical remand for further investigation.
The court granted the request and instructed the investigation officer to submit a progress report in the next hearing. The case involves the kidnapping of a man on December 24 from the Manghopir area of Karachi. The victim was abducted by a group of kidnappers, which allegedly included CTD officials and a police officer assigned to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) police. The kidnappers reportedly transferred 340,000 US dollars, equivalent to approximately Rs 130 million, from the victim’s cryptocurrency account during the abduction. The Anti Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) arrested the suspects, who are now facing charges related to the abduction and the illicit transfer of funds. The court has yet to decide the next course of action, pending the submission of further investigation details.
