LAHORE – The Athletics Federation of Pakistan on Wednesday decided to hire the services of foreign coaches for the training of players including Arshad Nadeem who won the gold medal in the javelin throw.

A large number of representatives from the units affiliated with the Athletics Federation of Pakistan including provinces and departments attended the meeting held in Islamabad, which was chaired by Brigadier (retd) Wajahat Hussain.

During the meeting, Arshad Nadeem, who won a gold medal for Pakistan at the Paris Olympics, was praised. It was decided that, for preparation for future competitions, Arshad Nadeem, Yasir and Shajar Abbas would be trained by international standard coaches to help Pakistan win more medals.

The meeting also decided to accelerate preparations for the South Asian Athletics Championship, which will be hosted by Pakistan.

Furthermore, it was decided that the steps would be taken to search for new talent at the grassroots level across the country while children lacking facilities would be provided not only training but also educational support.

Regarding doping, it was once again decided that there would be no compromise on this issue. The meeting also agreed that the Athletics Federation of Pakistan would provide operational and technical support for marathons and road races in the country.

In the General Council meeting, it was also decided that, instead of relying on government funding, the sponsorship pool would be increased, and the marketing sector would be activated.

Additionally, it was decided that steps would be taken to enhance the capabilities of coaches and technical officials in Pakistan. Currently, Pakistan’s coaches are also part of the PhD program, which will benefit the sport of athletics in the country in the future.
