LONDON – Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met UK Minister of State for South Asia and Commonwealth, Lord Tariq Ahmad, and the Minister of State for Development, Andrew Mitchel as part of his visit to the United Kingdom.
Dar called on British ministers at Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office on Friday, a day after he attended Nuclear Energy Summit.
In the meetings, the two sides shared views on Pakistan-UK relations, regional and global security, Islamabad’s role at the United Nations and other multilateral forums, as well as Pakistan’s economic and development vision.
Lord Ahmad felicitated Foreign Minister Dar for taking the key slot and expressed desire to collaborate closely with Sharif-led government. Dar and British minister further discussed strong ties between Pakistan and the UK and explored ways to deepen these ties, including by tapping into potential of British Pakistani diaspora to boost trade and investment.
Andrew Mitchel and Lord Ahmad assured support for early resumption of PIA flights to UK, while Foreign Minister Dar pledged to resolve any technical issues on Pakistan’s side promptly.
The two sides also shed light on Afghanistan, with the Minister of State for South Asia thanking Pakistan for its ongoing support in resettling Afghan nationals.
FM Dar also extended well wishes for the health and recovery of King Charles III and the Princess of Wales. Additionally, he warmly invited Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron, Minister Lord Ahmad, and Minister Mitchell to visit Pakistan, which was appreciated by the UK side.
Islamabad and London hold long history of diplomatic ties , marked by cooperation in several fields such as trade, education, and defense. The two sides also share strong cultural ties, with British Pakistani diaspora contributing to the connection.
Over time, the two countries worked together on issues of mutual interest, including regional security, counterterrorism, and economic development.
