LAHORE – The Flour Mills Association on Wednesday announced a nationwide strike after their talks with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) failed.
Chairman of the Flour Mills Association Asim Raza announced that following the breakdown of talks, flour mills across the country will go on strike from Wednesday (today).
As part of the strike, the mills would halt wheat grinding immediately and suspend flour supply from Thursday.
Raza stated, “We refuse to become withholding agents. Tax collection is the government’s responsibility, not ours.”
He further revealed that during a recent meeting, 600 flour mills owners unanimously approved a resolution to strike.
Starting from July 11, the supply of flour to the market will cease.
Raza warned that if the proposed tax is implemented, the price of flour would increase further.
