A fire broke out at a timber godown in Sector I-11 of Islamabad on Thursday morning. Teams of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad were busy in extinguishing the blaze till last reports came in.

According to sources, the fire broke out due to short-circuiting. This is the second incident of fire breaking out in the federal capital in as many days.

On Wednesday, a massive fire broke out at Aabpara Market in Islamabad engulfing several garment shops, destroying three and damaging several others. The blaze started in a cloth (dupatta) shop at the market in the morning which spread to other shops later. A Rescue spokesman said that the fire completely burnt three shops while materials in the adjacent shop were damaged.

Fire brigade officials informed that smoke could be seen rising from Aabpara Market where fire spread quickly, and the police were informed of the incident by the area’s residents.

The fire-fighters were able to douse the flames after a hectic operation spanning hours.
