KARACHI – A female polio worker was allegedly rapped and looted in Jacobabad city of Sindh, it emerged on Saturday.

The incident took place in Allah Buksh Jakharni village where a man held the polio worker hostage at gun point and allegedly looted her before sexually assaulting her.

Jacobabad Deputy Commissioner Zahoor Marri and SSP Sumair Noor Channa told media that the price suspect had been arrested along with the weapon used in the incident.

They said the DNA sample of the victim has been sent to Jamshoro for further investigation.

Authorities said the victim had previously registered a robbery case but she later informed the court that she was also raped.

They said sections related to sexual assault would also be made part of the case registered against the suspect.

Earlier this week, a week-long special anti-polio vaccination drive was initated across the country.  During the campaign, children up to five years of age will be administered anti polio vaccine drops.

The campaign has been launched across 115 districts aiming to vaccinate 30 million children against this debilitating disease.

Under the anti-polio drive around 286,000 polio workers will go door-to-door to administer polio drops to children.
