Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), has decided that the opposition will draft its own version of constitutional amendments, in response to the government’s proposed changes.

This was revealed during a meeting between Fazlur Rehman and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, according to sources from Express News.

The internal discussions indicate that legal experts Salman Akram Raja and Kamran Murtaza will prepare the draft, focusing on key legal and constitutional issues.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated, “We will move forward once we have our own draft and recommendations in hand. Only then will we be in a position to engage in discussions.”

He further emphasised, “We will not accept any extensions for institutional heads, nor will we allow any such proposals. My council has clearly instructed me to reject these constitutional amendments, as I am aware of many wrongful elements in the process.”

Fazlur Rehman also stressed that the opposition would use both parliamentary votes and public demonstrations to resist any unconstitutional moves.

Salman Akram Raja added, “We are organising a protest on Friday, after which we will reconvene. The government aims to bring the founder of PTI, Imran Khan, before a military court, and we strongly oppose this.”
