Ejaz Qureshi pays rich tributes to his predecessor for disposing of more than 130,000 cases

Zubair Qureshi

Friends and colleagues on Thursday paid rich compliments to the former Ombudsperson Syed Tahir Shehbaz for doing an excellent job disposing of more than 130,000 cases during his tenure, which is a record. “This is unprecedented and the highest number of cases disposed of during the tenure of a Federal Ombudsperson,” held they while attending a farewell ceremony in honour of the outgoing FO.

The incumbent Federal Ombudsperson Ejaz Qureshi also attended the farewell ceremony that in a way became a reception for him as well.

The farewell-cum-reception ceremony was attended by Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Dr Asif Mehmood Jah, Vice Chancellor KUM Syed Habib Bukhari, Chairman of the Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) Dr Yousuf Khushk, columnist Ajmal Khan Marwat, Dr Muhammad Ali, senior media persons Hafiz Tahir Khalil, Mazhar Barlas, Yousuf Alamgeerian, Dr Habib Bukhari and others.

Mr Qureshi said Syed Tahir Shehbaz as the Federal Ombudsperson took a number of steps and made revolutionary changes in the grievance-addressing system of the government employees, he said.

While commending the services of Syed Tahir Shehbaz, Dr Inamul Haq Javed, the host of the ceremony and eminent humorist poet, said the public knew Syed Tahir Shehbaz as an upright bureaucrat, a distinguished civil servant but very few knew about the hidden aspect of his personality i.e. his passion for books which was equally important. “One who loves books, loves humans and one who loves humans does justice,” said Dr Inam Javed. On the occasion, a number of senior officials of the FO secretariat said Syed Tahir Shehbaz made remarkable changes and introduced reforms like digitization in addressing the grievance system and he would be remembered long for that.
