Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Tuesday blasted the former rulers destroying the green fields of Punjab, saying that the corrupt rulers turned the food basket of Pakistan into a wastebasket. “The incumbent government is determined to control water theft, provide water to farmers up to tail end, increase agricultural productivity and last but not the least bring under cultivation all the uncultivated lands.”
Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan was addressing a press conference along with Punjab Minister for Irrigation Mohsin Khan Leghari at Irrigation Secretariat here on Tuesday.
The SACM said that Punjab has the best canal system in Asia, adding that the canal water guarantees an increase in agricultural production of the province and promises prosperity of the farmers and cultivators.
Dr Firdous said the water flowing in the canals is like blood running in the veins of our farmers and cultivators and termed it as the lifeblood for the agricultural economy. She said, unfortunately, those who ruled Punjab for 35 years not only dried up rivers and canals but deprived our farmers of progress and prosperity, however, the Punjab government is committed to resolving the issues related to irrigation.
Responding to a question, Dr Firdous said that there is a contradiction in the words and deeds of PML-N because Nawaz Sharif, who went to the Supreme Court to oust Yousuf Raza Gilani from the Prime Minister’s House, has today agreed to nominate the same Yousuf Raza Gilani for the Senate candidate.
She said Prime Minister Imran Khan is fully committed to conducting surgery on the corrupt leaders and Mariyam should explain first that what sort of surgery she requires. Is it mental or she needs eye surgery because she is in the habit of hallucinations about the number of attendees in the meetings?
The so-called royal family of Raiwind is in the habit of making lame excuses to flee the country for saving its skin from the court of law and the scion Mariyam is also making a false claim of surgery to evade the law, she said.
Dr Firdous said the PML-N had the support of Modi for its controversial statements against the state institutions and by doing this in every public meeting Mariyum Nawaz is further strengthening the relationship of her family with Modi.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohsin Leghari said that Tarimmu and Panjnad barrage are being improved and upgraded at a cost of Rs 16,800 million which would increase the capacity of Tarimmu barrage from 645,000 cusecs to 875,000 cusecs, while more than 1.3 million acres of land would be irrigated. He further said that work on Jalalpur canal had also started which would help in irrigating 160,000 acres of land of Pind Dadan Khan and Khushab.
