Safari Park’s elephant Sonia, who passed away last month, succumbed to respiratory illness and sepsis, according to her post-mortem report. The procedure was conducted by pathology experts from the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, said Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) spokesperson Ali Hassan Sajid.
The report revealed that Sonia suffered from lung tissue infections and abscesses that led to respiratory complications. In light of these findings, immediate steps are being taken to protect the park’s remaining two elephants from infections and diseases, Sajid added. Consultations with international experts are ongoing to ensure the medical well-being of the Safari Park’s animals. Additionally, complete health check-ups are being conducted for the two surviving elephants and the staff responsible for their care.
