At least eight passengers, including a woman, were killed and more than 70 injured in a fatal road accident in Nawabshah tehsil of Sheheed Benazirabad district on early Sunday. Two speeding passenger buses collided with each other near Balochpur stop, Dorr area, on the Mehran Highway in Nawabshah, Sindh, rescue sources said.
Rescue sources said one bus was travelling from Karachi to Obarra whereas the other one was going to Karachi from Peshawar. Reportedly, the accident happened due to over-speeding. Rescue sources further said that women and children were also among the injured, whereas all the injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical aid.
Soon after the incident, the emergency was announced at nearby hospitals. The deceased woman was identified as Razia Bibi, a resident of Karachi, while three other deceased passengers were Qurban Mirani, Abdul Majeed Solangi, and Agha Gul Khan.
Police said that injured passengers had been shifted to Peoples Medical University Hospital in Nawabshah, while four others, including a child, to the intensive care unit of the same hospital. It is pertinent to mention here that keeping in view the growing number of accidents, the Sindh High Court (SHC) had imposed a complete ban on the movement of passenger buses on the Mehran Highway.
