Earthquake shakes Swat, others part of KP

PESHAWAR – A 4.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Swat, and other parts of northwestern Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earthquake tremors were felt in surroundings citie as people came out of their houses reciting the Quranic verses.

Details shared by seismological center suggest intensity of the earthquake was recorded at 4.9 on the Richter scale, while the depth of the earthquake was at 215 km. The epicenter was Hindu Kush mountain range.

Earthquakes in northwestern Pakistan are common due to the tectonic plate. This area lies near the boundary between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate, which are constantly moving and interacting. Here are the main reasons why earthquakes are frequent in this region.
