Dr Umar Saif, the Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication, shared his vision for Pakistan’s digital economy at the IT Association (PASHA) event held in Karachi on Saturday.Addressing the Town Hall meeting with industry leaders and stakeholders, Dr. Saif highlighted the critical importance of a strong digital economy for Pakistan’s future prosperity.
In his address, Dr. Saif extended congratulations to all the newly elected members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, emphasizing the imperative of early government formation for the nation’s stability and economic progress.
The minister shared his journey on promoting IT sector across the globe and said, “We have achieved 13 out of 15 important targets for the promotion of the IT & Telecom sector in a short period of 5 months in the caretaker set-up.”He noted that the SIFC forum has also proven to be a great support for the upcoming elected government in the process of building and developing the country, and the elected government will also reap the benefits of the measures we have taken during the caretaker period.”
He articulated a comprehensive roadmap aimed at fostering the growth of Pakistan’s digital economy, asserting that sustained efforts could yield substantial revenue gains for the nation.”Continuity in our strategic initiatives is paramount,” remarked Dr. Saif, “as it holds the potential to unlock nearly 2.6 billions of dollars from IT exports in revenue streams.”
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Information Technology and Telecom (IT&T) sector, recognizing its pivotal role as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy.Highlighting recent achievements, Dr. Saif noted with pride a record 32% surge in IT exports over the past 60 days—a testament to the efficacy of proactive policies and initiatives.
Stressing the need for uninterrupted power supply to the IT sector, he highlighted its significance in ensuring economic stability and growth.Chairman of PASHA, Zohaib Khan, expressed gratitude to Dr. Umar Saif for his unwavering dedication and exemplary service to the IT sector.
