Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani has allowed the cable operators for further two months to complete the work of laying of cables underground saying that the work requires priority basis in view of importance of the work and safety needs.
He was presiding over a meeting with the cable operator’s association, representatives of KE and other stake holders. Additional Commissioner Karachi I Asad Ali Khan, Deputy Commissioner south Syed Salahuddin Ahmed and Assistant Commissioner General Aijaz Hussain Rind were also present in the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that cable operators would be now allowed to complete the laying of cables underground in one month time in red zone area and further two months will have in other parts of city, It was decided that if not completed with de time hefty fine would be imposed against permit ho0lder.
The meeting reviewed the progress of work being carried out in the city by the Cable operators. He said there is a great need to expedite the work due to the safety requirement. K electric pointed out the meeting that the cables on the open barbed have potential of electrocution.
It further said that PTCL and telecommunication companies etc use poles of K electric for providing communication facilities connecting banks, businesses and provision of utilities to the city.
Commissioner said that the cable operators would be sole responsible for repairing the road or foot paths dig for the laying of the cables properly. The terms and conditions ask the Cable Operators Association to follow the time line of one month in red zone and three months in other parts of the city.
