Crackdown against power theft continues

On the special instructions of the Ministry of Energy Power Division, operations against electricity thieves and defaulters of Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) are in full swing in all operation circles.

A handout issued by the QESCO, said that so far, 5117 connections have been found involved in electricity theft across the province. Illegal connections included 3049 domestic, 1986 commercial and 82 industrial.

He further said that as many as 1265 applications have been filed for legal action against electricity thieves in police stations and levies stations, and so far 380 FIRs have been registered against electricity thieves in all areas of the province including the provincial capital Quetta.

Of which 66 FIRs have been registered in the provincial capital Quetta, 89 in Lorelai, 65 in Khuzdar, 93 in Sabi, 46 in Pishin and 21 in Makran.

Apart from this, a total of 166 electricity thieves have been arrested so far, against whom legal proceedings are ongoing. Meanwhile, 25 lakh 30 thousand unit detection fines have been charged to the electricity thieves. A fine of 13.83 million rupees has been imposed on all the electricity thieves, while 9.26 million rupees have been collected from the electricity thieves so far.
