Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the devastating situation particularly the economic crisis in Sindh was due to massive corruption. It was the primary obligation of the provincial government t resolve all the pending and emerging challenges of the port city of Karachi failing which the federal government is providing financial assistance to the provincial government.
He was talking to MPAs of Sindh belonging to PTI at Sindh Governor House, Monday. Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and federal ministers Azam Khan Swati, Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar, Syed Ali Zaidi, Faisal Wawda, Special Coordinator Nadeem Babar and Asad Umer were present.
MPAs briefed the PM about the progress on ongoing development projects in the respective electoral constituencies.
The PM said that Karachi was the economic and hub and revenue engine of Pakistan and the federal government is fully aware of assorted issues and problems of the people of this mega city including issue of water, transport, solid waste management and others. It was te prime duty of Sindh government to take appropriate steps for the resolution and redressal of these public issues but they had not and hence the federal government has come forward to help the people of the port city to see changes and improvements with regard to facilities and infrastructure in an improved manner. The federal government is adding its share for the sake of the people of Karachi. In this connection, a better local government system would be of pivotal importance and help for the people of the city.
Imran Khan said that Sindh province has been destroyed by the corrupt practices and the menace of corruption has ruined the entire province. As well, the situation was also worst at the national scale and on the day his government was formed he was shocked to learn that the country was stuck in variety of crises of which fiscal and economic crises were on top and these two crises had stabbed the country to bath in blood.
Federal Minister Khusro Bakhtiar shared the details of ongoing and in pipeline projects for Karachi with the MPAs and assured that these projects would be completed at all cost and he had in particular assured them that the K-IV greater water supply project for Karachi would also be completed soon.
Meanwhile, the PM Imran Khan with special stress directed Sindh Governor that he should more keenly focus on tie pace of ongoing development projects in Karachi because resolution of all pending and emerging issues in Karachi are among top priorities of the federal government.
The PM and the Governor discussed in detail about the issues, problems, development projects for Karachi on which the PM asked him to take steps for on time completion of the ongoing development projects.
The PM also expressed his displeasure and concern over increase in street crimes. However, he lauded the law enforcers and said that they are executing their assigned duties diligently and it is the prime responsibility of the federal government to protect and secure lives and assets of the people.
Meanwhile, a delegation of the Parliamentarians of Muttahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) called on the PM Imran Khan at Sindh Governor House. The delegation had comprised Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, who led the delegation, and Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar, Kunwar Naveed Jamil, Faisal Sabzwari and Khawaja Izhar Ul Hassan.
They complained of federal minister Fawwad Chaudhry’s controversial statement, raised the issue of release of MQM workers that have been lingering in jails without any lawful charges and handing over to them the sealed party offices.
