The Coronavirus pandemic claimed 82 more lives while 1,704 new infections were reported during the last 24 hours, according to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Tuesday.
Fresh 1,704 infections in the past 24 hours raised the national tally to 460,672, while the national death toll has reached 9,474 so far. At least 2,398 Covid-19 patients are in critical condition out of the 40,261 active cases across the country. So far, a total of 410,937 people have recovered from the virus.
National coronavirus positivity rate dropped to 4.93 percent after more than six weeks of a surge in infections, data issued by NCOC showed. A total of 34,594 tests were conducted across the country during the last 24 hours, while so far 6,370,707 samples have been tested.
Government data showed 60,190 Covid-19 cases have been reported across Pakistan in the last 21 days with a daily average of 2,866.19. At least 1,383 people have died of Covid-19 since the start of December.
Meanwhile, a medical student in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Tuesday lost her life due to coronavirus-related complications. Dr Sana Riyaz, the student of the first year of Khyber Girls Medical College, contracted coronavirus, the Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) said. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 39 doctors and two medical students in the province so far.
As many as 149 Sindh police personnel, including officers and ranks, contracted the coronavirus during the last five days, pushing the number of infected police personnel to 4,084, said a spokesperson of the Sindh Police on Tuesday. “So far, 22 police officials have died due to the virus and at least 465 were undergoing treatment,” the spokesperson added.
The spokesperson added that at least 3,597 police personnel had recovered from the virus and were in good health. He further said that essential steps were being taken daily to ensure proper care of the personnel who have contracted Covid-19.
“The officers and ranks, who served as the vanguard against coronavirus, are extremely committed and enthusiastic to serve humanity,” the spokesperson said further.
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Health is working on a specific mechanism for a corona vaccination campaign across the country. The National Immunisation Management System has been under the hammer for the vaccination drive with technical assistance from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
The National Immunization Management System will be a two-way communication system that will run in collaboration with the interior and information technology ministries. The central database of the modern mechanism will be established at NADRA.
The citizens of various age groups will be registered in the database of NADRA and vaccination schedules of different age groups will be prepared in accordance with the database. The database authority will send SMS to a citizen according to his or her particulars and the citizen will respond to NADRA with a message with regard to confirmation of the message.
