By His Excellency Mr Markiian Chuchuk Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan on 33th Anniversary of Independence of Ukraine
On August 24, Ukraine celebrates its national day – the 33th anniversary of Independence. The restoration of independence of Ukraine in 1991 crowned the long journey of Ukrainians to independent national state and marked the culmination of the Ukrainian state-building process. Celebrating the 33rd anniversary of the adoption of the Act of Proclamation of Independence of Ukraine, we are conscious of the thousand-year history and tradition of our statehood.
Centuries of statelessness imposed on Ukrainian people an incredible cost. Just in the 20th century millions of Ukrainians fell victims of Holodomor, Holocaust, repressions, deportations and wars. We must always remember that only our own state is a real guarantee that such tragedies never be repeated again.
The struggle for independence yet to be completed. These days Ukrainians defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of their state from Russian aggression. This is a battle not only for people, freedom and territory, but also for the right to decide our destiny and our future.
Taking an opportunity, I extend my heartfelt congratulations and wishes of success and prosperity to all Ukrainian compatriots in Pakistan as well as to our Pakistani friends and partners.
Bilateral relations between Ukraine and Pakistan are traditionally characterized by a high level of mutual understanding in the political-diplomatic, military-technical, trade-economic, as well as cultural-humanitarian domains. Our countries remain good friends and time-tested partners both in terms of bilateral interaction as well as on international stage. Our ties are based upon common values, mutual respect and understanding.
We value cooperation between the two countries which, I am sure, will successfully thrive and prosper in the years to come.
