Commissioner vows to control food prices

Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi chaired a meeting to review the prices of essential food items, focusing on reducing the cost of bread, naan, and various grocery products. In the meeting, Deputy Commissioners West Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and Central Taha Saleem presented their reports on prices. It was decided to call a meeting with wholesalers soon to finalize new, reduced prices. The meeting also reviewed beef and mutton prices, along with a report on actions taken against profiteers between October 28 and November 3. During this period, fines totaling PKR 484,000 were imposed on 186 grocery vendors, while 36 beef sellers faced fines of PKR 90,000 for overcharging. Commissioner Karachi directed that citizen complaints should be prioritized. It was reported that 474 complaints had been resolved, while another 441 are under action. The Commissioner urged deputy commissioners to continue strict actions against profiteering and to address civic issues promptly.
