Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, chaired a virtual meeting to review progress on urban governance, with a focus on the city’s ongoing anti-encroachment drive. Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners presented updates on efforts to enhance traffic flow and remove obstructions caused by illegal encroachments, debris, and misuse of basements in high-rise commercial buildings. The meeting highlighted the removal of construction material and garbage from key roads, as well as efforts to ensure compliance with building laws.
Deputy Commissioners of South and East districts reported ongoing coordination with high-rise building associations and the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to address issues caused by construction debris obstructing roads and sidewalks.
Deputy Commissioner Malir, Salimullah Odho, reported the removal of 20 illegal stalls and 30 cabins from Malir Halt and Shah Town. Deputy Commissioner West, Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, shared that encroachments were cleared from five locations in Orangi and Gulshan-e-Bahar in Mominabad, as well as various roadside tyre vendors. In the South district, Deputy Commissioner Javed Nabi Khoso informed the meeting about the removal of encroachments from Lea Market Chowk, Abdullah Haroon Road, and Zainab Market. Additional efforts included targeting restaurants causing traffic congestion and removing 15 stalls and five pushcarts.
Deputy Commissioner East, Abrar Jafer, provided updates on anti-encroachment operations at Allama Iqbal Road and Aladin Park Sunday Bazaar. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Central, Taha Saleem, detailed actions to clear Liaquat Ali Khan Road, Yasinabad Bridge, and Rais Jafferi Road of encroachments. DC Keamari, Raja Tariq Chandio, reported similar operations at Bismillah Chowk, Nazimabad, and Quetta Madina Hotel. These measures, carried out across various districts, aim to ease traffic flow and improve urban governance in Karachi. Commissioner Naqvi commended the efforts of all districts and urged sustained action to ensure long-term improvements in Karachi’s urban infrastructure.
