A meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, focused on reviewing the efforts by District Administrations to enforce government-set prices and crack down on profiteering. Civic issues and their potential solutions were also on the agenda.
Key attendees included Deputy Commissioners, Additional Commissioner-I Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Additional Commissioner-II Ghazanfar Ali Shah, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed, and Assistant Commissioner General HazimBangwar. During the meeting, Deputy Commissioners provided updates on initiatives to control prices and combat food adulteration within their districts. Deputy Commissioner Malir, Irfan Salam, reported on a recent operation targeting factories producing oil from dead animals and mixing chemicals in milk, conducted in collaboration with the Food Department.
He mentioned that around 700 liters of contaminated oil were seized, the factories were sealed, and two individuals, including the factory owner, were arrested. Further, Deputy Commissioner Malir highlighted the actions taken by Assistant Commissioner Ibrahim Hyderi and the Food Department against a factory in Lal Muhammad Kharal Bara Bhens Colony, where chemicals were being mixed into milk.
Authorities confiscated 720 kg of powder used in milk production and destroyed between 800 to 1,000 liters of chemically altered milk on-site. One person was arrested, and a case was registered at Sukhan Police Station, with the factory subsequently sealed. The Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioners to strictly enforce official pricing and ensure more effective price control measures. Updates were shared on actions taken against profiteers in various districts, with reports of penalties against 138 vegetable sellers, 199 poultry vendors, and 62 meat shopkeepers over the past 12 days.
The meeting discussed the relocation of intercity bus stands to the highway, noting that those within the city have been made non-operational.
