ISLAMABAD – Cold wave/frost conditions will likely grip Pakistan from December 08 to December 14, 2024.
As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department, a westerly wave prevails over the upper parts of the country.
Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over hills are predicted in the upper parts of the country.
A cold wave will likely affect most parts of the country from 08th to 14th December. Under the influence of cold wave conditions, significant drops in day and night temperatures are predicted. Day temperatures are likely to drop (04°C to 06°C below normal in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir and 05°C to 07°C below normal in Balochistan and Sindh).
Cold weather with gusty winds is likely in Sindh, Balochistan, and parts of Punjab. Frost is also likely to develop over plains.
Moderate rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are predicted in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Buner, Shangla, Manshera, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Astore, Ghizer, Gilgit, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Kotli, Haveli and Bagh December 08, 10 and 11 with occasional gaps.
Light to moderate rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over the hills are predicted in Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad and Jhang on 08th December.
Possible Impacts and Advice: Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast, particularly frost conditions. Avoid long periods of outdoor exposure in cold and windy weather during the night and morning hours.
Tourists and travellers visiting mountainous areas are advised to remain cautious during this period.
