Punjab Chief Minister Syed MohsinNaqvi on Tuesday distributed cheaper electric motorcycles (e-motorcycles) to the students and people belonging to different professions as part of the provincial government’s efforts to combat air pollution that was the cause of smog in Lahore and other cities of Punjab.

Addressing the bikes distribution ceremony in Lahore, the CM said that 10, 000 bikes would be given to students, the employees of Punjab secretariat, and men and women working in government and private sectors, including special persons, on interest-free and easy installments.

The chief minister said that in order to cut down pollution level, the government would also distribute 10, 000 electric rickshaws.

He informed that the date for getting driving licenses on old fees had been extended till January 15.

The chief minister said that if e-motorcycles and e-cars could ply on China’s roads, then why can’t in Pakistan.

He, on the occasion, announced that from today the government would only buy e-bikes, and not the bikes that run on petrol.—NNI
