Cleanliness system functional in 5,000 villages

Commissioner Gujranwala Division Naveed Haider Shirazi has said that under the Punjab government flagship program ‘Ab Gaon Chamkein Gey’, has improved solid waste disposal system in more than 5,000 villages across the division.

While issuing instructions to improve and speed up the ongoing measures, he expressed hope that the relevant departments would improve their performance by fulfilling the basic responsibility of public service and solving problems in good faith.

The commissioner expressed these views in the light of instructions given in a video-link meeting, chaired by Chief Secretary Punjab Zahid Akhtar Zaman in his office at Gujranwala. He directed the deputy commissioners, director of Local Government and all the officers concerned to utilise available resources wisely in the spirit of public service to bring substantial improvement and continuity in solving long-standing public problems.

He said all employees should work with devotion and teamwork and ensure achievement of desired results as per public expectations. Director Local Government Gujranwala Division Qamar Zeeshan, while briefing the commissioner, said that the programme ‘Ab Gaon Chamkein Gey’ was going on in 5,176 villages and 545 union councils of the division.

So far, in more than 4,700 villages, garbage lying for a long time have been moved to designated dumping sites away from the population, while in other villages, the initiatives under this programme are also ongoing. It is worth mentioned here that

Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi had earlier kicked started the programme ‘Ab Gaon Chamkein Ge’ (now the village will shine) from Qila Sharif village in Sharqpur, disclosed a government’s spokesperson. Provincial ministers Mansoor Qadir.
