Observer Report
Administrator Karachi Iftikhar Ali Shalawani, Consul Generals of Germany and Japan, Yasmeen Lari, Shaukat Omari and other important personalities of civil society participated in the cleaning of Frere Hall park on Sunday.
At the occasion, Shallwani said if Karachi is to be cleaned, the citizens themselves have to take care. “If Karachi becomes clean then people from outside the city and other countries will come here.”
He said instead of throwing garbage in the streets and drains, dispose it properly. “All parks in Karachi will be cleaned and renovated. Karachi’s historic buildings will be restored to their original condition.”
Shallwani said citizens have to show love for Karachi by taking care of cleanliness, adding Karachi’s parks are a common asset for all of us.
Frere Hall is a historic building that has been opened to the public. The Frere Hall Library is also open to the public to come and use historical books.
A clean-up drive will also be launched in Hill Park, Kidney Hill and Bagh Ibn Qasim in collaboration with civil society, the Administrator stressed.
Shahid Abdulla, a member of the Guardian Board, told media that the board will make a safe playing area for children at a corner in the park.
He said a fence would ensure safety in the current law and order situation. The board has submitted a proposal to close the park by midnight as all the parks in Karachi are closed at night.
“We have given the proposal keeping in view that the drug addicts have stolen benches and lights from the Frere Hall park many times,” he said.
