ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa on Monday refused an extension in his tenure.
After addressing the full court reference at the start of the new judicial year in the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa had an informal conversation with journalists.
A journalist asked, “Rana Sanaullah is saying that if all judges’ ages are increased, would you also agree to take an extension?”
To this, the Chief Justice replied, “Bring Rana Sanaullah before me. There was a meeting attended by Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, Senior puisne judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Attorney General for Paksitan Mansoor Usman Awan, but Rana Sanaullah was not present. In that meeting, it was mentioned that the tenures of all Chief Justices are being extended. I said, go ahead and extend others’, but I will not accept it for myself. I don’t even know if I’ll be alive tomorrow,”.
When asked about the matter of the letter by six judges not being scheduled for a hearing, the Chief Justice said that it is up to the committee to schedule the case. Justice Musarrat Hilali was unable to attend due to illness, which is why the bench could not be formed.
In response to a question about the goals for the new judicial year, the Chief Justice of Pakistan said that improvements would be made to the case management system, and there is a lot to be done.
