ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi on Tuesday called a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) for December 6.
The meeting will discuss the appointment of judges to the Sindh High Court and Peshawar High Court.
This followed the approval of the 26th Constitutional Amendment and the subsequent reorganization of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan. After this amendment, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi had called the first meeting of the JCP on November 5.
During the inaugural meeting of the JCP, it was decided to establish a seven-member constitutional bench, led by Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan. The decision to appoint Justice Amin-ud-Din was supported by seven out of the twelve members of the commission, while five members opposed it.
During the last meeting of the Judicial Commission, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, along with opposition members of parliament Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz, had opposed the appointment of Justice Amin-ud-Din.
