Chinese Premier Li Keqiang called for greater breakthroughs in the development of efficient detection reagents, effective drugs and vaccines to fight the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
During an inspection tour to a national emergency platform for COVID-19 drugs and medical equipment, he acknowledged China’s development in nucleic acid detection reagents and other testing reagents.
Li said that the reagents have played a key role in epidemic control, and efforts should be made to develop reagents with shorter detection time, more accurate results and simpler operation.
Noting that drugs are key to curbing the spread of the virus, Li said that priority should be placed on developing a selection of safe and reliable drugs with notable efficacy to treat the critical cases, bring down the mortality rate, and stop mild cases from deteriorating.
Efforts should be made to speed up the development of COVID-19 vaccines and ensure their quality at the same time, Li said, adding that the country should strengthen international cooperation in vaccine development.
Li also urged improved government services and a more efficient review process to support the development of reagents, drugs and vaccines.
Relevant departments should step up coordination in the release of research results so that the public can get accurate and reliable information, Li said, reports China Economic Net.
A group of Pakistani students have formed a ‘Iron Volunteer Group’ in Wuhan, China’s Hubei Province to fight Coronavirous.
They told China Economic Net (CEN) that they work with the students of some other countries to keep high the spirit of Pak-China friendship.
Taking orders, placing orders, receiving goods and delivering goods, distributing rice and vegetables … these are part of their routine work.
Among them, some practice the “Long Live China-Pakistan Friendship” with actions as volunteers, putting themselves in danger for the sake of other students during the fight against the COVID-19.
There are two students of the food ordering group in charge of ordering Non-Muslim food and Muslim food from CUG(Wuhan)’s canteens. “I am responsible for ordering Muslim food,” said Ismail Shah, a Pakistani volunteer.
To facilitate food ordering, Shah created a group on WeChat, China’s most popular social media platform. Every night, students put their food orders for the next day in that group. They pay for their orders by WeChat Pay or Alipay, China’s top two digital payments.
Shah told CEN, “We are working in a proper way. Everyone has its own responsibility.” He added, “Besides routine responsibility, we also have unscheduled works, just like distributing wheat flour, rice, vegetables, cooking oil, eggs, fruits, etc.”
A Pakistani volunteer Habib Ur Rehman, has to make a report “Iron Man Volunteering Dairy” and send it to the working group on daily basis.
As all volunteers and teachers often hold an online meeting. They discuss the students issues and how to meet their demands, as well as make a schedule for next day’s work.
Rehman, from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said, “I feel tired physically, but I get inner satisfaction from helping others as a volunteer.” If someone wants to work as a volunteer, which means that he or she wants to help the humanity, he said.
“I can’t express the work of CUG(Wuhan) volunteers in words because they put themselves in danger for the sake of other students,” he told CEN.
Another Pakistani volunteer Muhammad Akhtar Alam wrote on his social media account that “It is time to cook dinner for myself after serving students all the day, without getting any rest.—INP
