PESHAWAR – Chinese company has returned to work on a major dam site in northwestern Pakistan after being provided with extra security.
Beijing demanded its own security company to guard its citizens and assets in Pakistan, after deadly bombing.
Nazakat Hussain, General Manager of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, confirmed that 350 Chinese nationals have resumed work alongside 6,000 local staff.
The disruption in work was due to a suicide attack on a bus of Dasu Dam engineers that resulted in the death of five Chinese nationals. Diamer-Bhasha Dam is located on the River Indus between Kohistan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Diamer district in Gilgit Baltistan.
Diamer, which is expected to produce 4,800 MW of electricity, is being constructed by a joint venture of China Power and Frontier Works Organisation.
Pakistan has made stern security measures at the Dasu Dam site after meeting between the prime minister and Chinese officials.
