Punjab Minister for Social Welfare Syed Yawar Abbas Bukhari said that special children’s centre ‘Maskan’ will be made a world class institution.

He said this is a ‘baby step’ of the government and the scope of this model will be extended across the province.
An ISO certificate will be obtained for ‘Maskan’.

Addressing the introductory function of ‘Maskan’ at Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Thursday, he said that special children’s accommodation, education and rehabilitation work would be done in Maskan.

“Private sector should also contribute in this welfare project”, he said. The ceremony was attended by LCCI President Noman Kabir, Senior Vice President Rehman Aziz Chan, Vice President Waris Habib and Chairperson of Maskan Amna Aftab.

Syed Yawar Abbas Bukhari said that Lahore Chamber has always participated in welfare works. “Society must play its part in rehabilitating special people”, said the minister.

He said that the Department of Social Welfare welcomes the cooperation of NGOs in their welfare work, however, “no compromise will be made on transparency”.

He said that ISO certification of Maskan would also be obtained for further transparency.
He said that politics is indeed a social work, commitment to goodness is the guarantee of success in this world and the hereafter.

Yawar Abbas said that considering people with physical disabilities as a burden will not solve the problem but by giving them attention and education they can be made useful members of the society.

President LCCI Noman Kabir said “LEBARD” under Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry is working for the treatment and rehabilitation of special persons. We are ready to extend collaboration with social welfare department.”
