The Chief Election Commissioner has convened a consultative meeting today on the proposal of the date for the general elections by President Dr Arif Alvi.
Sources in the ECP said that CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja has not yet decided the time of the meeting. The meeting participants would review the letter written by the president.
The legal team will give a legal briefing and expert opinion on the president’s proposal. Four members and the relevant wings will also participate in the meeting.
After the consultation, the electroral watchdog will respond to the president’s proposal regarding the general elections.
Meanwhile, the authority of the Election Commission of Pakistan to give a date for the general elections has been challenged in court.
Azhar Siddique, the head of the Judicial Activism Panel, has filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry in this regard.
The federal government, the election commission and others have been made parties in the petition.
