Cambridge announces decision about marks in leaked A-level maths paper

ISLAMABAD – Cambridge International Education has issued a report regarding the leak of the A-level Mathematics paper in Pakistan.

The report said Cambridge International has expressed concern over the leak of the maths paper on May 2 in the South Asian country. Students and parents had expressed concerns over the incident, saying such things could damage the transparency in exams.

The Cambridge has now decided to take various steps to address the issue.

Cambridge Says Marks Will Not be Awarded for Leaked Maths Paper

The Cambridge International has decided not to award marks to students for the leaked Mathematics exam. Instead, students will receive marks based on their performance in other Mathematics exams.

The report further explains that all students will be given fair marks.

Students who wish to retake the exam can do so in November 2024, and there will be no fee charged for the retake.

Background

Three months ago, Cambridge International Education (CIE) had started a probe after A-level Maths paper was allegedly leaked online before the examination.

Posts shared on social platforms claimed that Maths paper (9709/12) surfaced online, a little before students appeared for the exam. Candidates lamented the leak, calling it an unfortunate incident as students studies hard and gave their time and effort and were expecting top results.

Amid the uproar, Cambridge International Education (CIE) announced starting an inquiry about a possible leak of the AS Level Mathematics 9709 Paper 12 exam that held on May 2, 2024 Thursday.
