ISLAMABAD – Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-5 Nuclear Project marks key step in boosting China-Pakistan Economic Cooperation. First Concrete Date Ceremony was organised for C-5 project.

Top officials from both sides, including Minister Iqbal, Ambassador of China to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong, Lieutenant General Jamal, Dr. Ali Raza, Ambassador Hashmi, and Deputy General Manager Zhang Kai, were present to celebrate the event which highlighted success of the ongoing cooperation between ‘Iron Friends’.

In his address, the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, extended congratulations on the First Concrete Date Ceremony for Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-5, emphasizing the project’s potential to create 40,000 jobs during construction.

He highlighted Islamabad’s strategic advantages in location, language, and human resources, which, combined with China’s strengths in technology and capital, offer great opportunities for exploring third-party markets. Ambassador cited Beijing’s key contribution to Pakistan’s economy, with direct Chinese investment accounting for 41% of the total foreign investment in Pakistan over the last five months, despite global economic challenges.

H.E Jiang Zaidong further reaffirmed commitment to continuing practical cooperation with Pakistan, particularly through major projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and smaller public welfare initiatives, calling for a more advanced version of multi billion project.

He referred to key initiatives such like Khunjerab-Sost Pass and the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station as examples of fruitful collaboration, and sheds light to expand non-CPEC projects, particularly in the power and mining sectors, to further strengthen the economic and social ties between the two countries.

Minister for Planning Development & Special Initiatives of Pakistan Ahsan Iqbal expressed appreciation for China’s role in Pakistan’s development, particularly in energy generation and infrastructure, and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to the continued success of CPEC projects.

The ceremony underscored the growing economic and strategic relationship between the two nations and the shared vision of building a stronger, sustainable, and prosperous future together. Both sides reiterated their resolve to deepen cooperation in the upcoming year, addressing new global challenges while achieving practical results that benefit both countries and the wider region.
