LAHORE – Pakistan women’s team’s former captain Bismah Maroof on Thursday suddenly announced an retirement from the international cricket.
The 32-year-old Bismah Maroof said, “Today, I bid farewell to the game I love. This journey of cricket has been memorable. These memories will always stay with me,”.
She thanked her family for their unwavering support throughout her cricketing journey, from the beginning till now.
The announcement of retirement from international cricket comes at the moment when Pakistan women team came under scrutiny due to poor performance against West Indies women team. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi took notice and dissolved the committee.
She further said, “I want to express my gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board for trusting me and providing me with a platform to showcase my abilities,”.
She particularly appreciated the PCB’s commitment to implementing the policy of prioritizing mothers, which enabled her to represent her country at the highest level while being a mother. Bismah also expressed her gratitude to the fans whose unwavering support has been with her wherever and whenever she represented her country.
“Finally, I want to thank my teammates who have become like family to me. The friendship we shared both on and off the field is something I will always cherish,” she added.
Bismah Maroof, who represented Pakistan in 276 international matches (136 ODIs and 140 T20Is) between December 2006 and April 2024, which is a national record.
She scored 6262 runs (3369 ODIs and 2893 T20Is) and took 80 wickets with the help of 33 half-centuries (21 ODIs and 12 T20I fifties) in international cricket.
