ISLAMABAD – Chinese Premier Li Qiang called on Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, and two leaders highlighted “deep and enduring friendship” in key meeting. Premier Li’s arrival coincides with a heads-of-government gathering of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, taking place under heightened security measures in Pakistani capital.
In his meeting, Li emphasized strong brotherly relationship between Islamabad and Beijing, noting that under President Xi Jinping’s leadership, their strategic cooperation is set to deepen further. He also acknowledged Zardari’s contributions to enhancing bilateral ties and reiterated China’s commitment to elevating the partnership to new heights.
Both sides also mentioned the acceleration of development projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and Li assured that China would continue to support Chinese companies investing in Pakistan, expressing confidence in the future strengthening of relations.
Pakistani President also underscored potential for further expanding bilateral relations, calling for increased trade and people-to-people exchanges. He encouraged Chinese firms to explore investment opportunities, particularly through CPEC and Gwadar Port, and announced plans to visit China in November to further dialogue on strengthening ties.
The meeting serves as a testament to the unwavering support between China and Pakistan, particularly concerning issues of mutual importance such as sovereignty and territorial integrity.
