In a sigh of relief for matriculation and intermediate students, the Sindh High Court (SHC) has turned down the review plea filed by educational boards against its order that barred them from collecting fees from candidates.

The two-member bench of SHC announced the verdict, stopping educational boards from collecting examination and certificate fees from matriculation and intermediate students.

The Sukkur bench of court heard the review plea filed by educational boards. During the argument, board’s legal team prayed before the court to let them collect fees from students.

Judge Iqbal Kalhoro and Arbab Ali however affirmed its previous decision to exempt matriculation and intermediate students from fees. In its verdict, the court noted that Sindh government announced free education up to the intermediate level and allocated funds to the educational boards for examinations and certificates in 2017.

During the hearing, Assistant Advocate General apprised court that provincial government would release the required funds to the boards.

In a similar update, hundreds of inter students are protesting against what they call ‘unfair marking’.

The agitation stemmed to intermediate examinations as students are now submitting scrutiny forms at Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK).

Candidates who failed the exams are not satisfied with the marking, as BIEK is taking Rs400 for scrutiny of each subject.

Amid the protest, a committee has been formed to look into the matter while the form submission for scrutiny would continue till February 12.
