ISLAMABAD – Islamabad High Court on Thursday restored the appeals of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif against his sentence in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The court division bench led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb restored appeals filed by three-time prime minister against convictions in the Al-Azizia and Avenfield references.

Earlier this month, the court granted protective bail to the PML-N supremo, allowing him to return safely to the country and appear before the court.

In the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference, Sharif, 73, was awarded a sentence to 7 years in jail and then shifted to Adiala Jail from where he was shifted to Kot Lakhpat jail.

He was however released from jail and departs to UK for medical treatment after permission from the LHC. As Sharif failed to appear in court, the court declared the seasoned politician a proclaimed offender.

This is a developing story, and will be updated later…
