Bayern Munich are firmly back in the Bundesliga title contention after finding their groove against Freiburg during the 5-1 hammering to signal an end to their lean patch at home.
The Bundesliga champions wasted little time in gaining the upper hand through Serge Gnabry in the 13th minute who headed in a rebound after Mark Flekken had saved Leroy Sane’s goal-bound effort.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting then doubled his side’s lead with his first goal of the new season as the Champions hogged all the possession.
Things did not get better for the visitors after the half with Leroy Sane scoring Bayern’s third in the 52nd minute before Sadi Mane added a fourth in the 55th minute to kill off the game.
Marcel Sabitzer completed the rout in the 80th minute for Bayern Munich to inflict a first loss on Freiburg since August.
The win moves Bayern to second on the Bundesliga table with 19 points from 10 games.
Meanwhile, the league leaders Union Berlin continued their unlikely stint at the top of the table with another impressive win over Borussia Dortmund.
Janik Haberer scored both goals for his side during the 2-0 win against a Dortmund side that looked a shell of itself from the previous week.
The win takes Berlin to 23 points from their 10 games.
