Balochistan varsity harassment issue threat to women empowerment: Farah

Former Parliamentarian in Provincial assembly of Balochistan and Chairperson ‘Emaan Pakistan Tehreek’ Farah Azeem shah on Sunday said that recent demeaning issue of women harassment and blackmailing in University of Balochistan posing threat to women experiment in province.
Space for women in Balochistan have already been shirking in society and after this shameful act done by alleged officials of University Balochistan reduce the space for women not only in education institutions but as whole in society, Former Provincial Parliamentarian, Farrah Azeem Shah said this while talking to media here in National Press Club Islamabad.
In modern world when developed societies were discussing social, economic and political empowerment of women including the vast role for them to sustainable development, again women in Balochistan are facing terrible situation for their basis right of education in University of Balochistan, she said. Question again rose for safety and security of women in province, when feudal and tribel culture creating hurdle for women empowerment and suppressing their basic rights.
She said that about about a month ago, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) received a request by the Balochistan High Court (BHC) to investigate this case, adding that th FIA has interrogated three officers of the University of Balochistan in relation this case of women harassment.
This isn’t the first time the FIA has been alerted about harassment related concerns at the university, she add-ed.
Farrah informed the Commission has placed these issues on the agenda of the vice chancellor’s meeting to be held on October 21, 2019.
According to the students, CCTV cameras were installed in secret and unknown locations such as bathrooms and smoking areas on campus.
The footage was then used as a tool for blackmailing students that led to sexual harassment, she said.
