Babar Azam is likely to be replaced as the captain of Pakistan’s national T20 side for their series against Afghanistan.
Shaheen Afridi, currently leading Lahore Qalandars in the 8th season of the Pakistan Super League, is expected to take over the role for the three-match series.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will likely include new names in the touring party with an eye on building a more aggressive team for the next T20 World Cup.
Babar, Mohammad Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shan Masood and even Shadab Khan are expected to make way for the newer faces.
Ihsanullah, Azam Khan, Saim Ayub, and Usama Mir are all expected to be in the touring party which will head to Sharjah later this month.
Babar Azam has caught plenty of flak during his time as the T20 captain of Pakistan despite relatively positive results, with the naysayers criticizing his batting style which according to them does not fit in the newer age of cricket.
Shaheen, meanwhile, has emerged as a favourite to take over the role when Azam actually calls time on leading the side. He led Lahore to its first PSL title last year and his side currently sits atop the rankings at this very moment and is expected to repeat as champions.
Pakistan will take on Afghanistan in a three-match T20 series beginning on March 24th.
