ISLAMABAD – President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received red carpet welcome at Islamabad as he arrived for a two-day official visit to Pakistan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Azeri President as two sides are set to engage in comprehensive discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation.

Several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during these meetings. The visit highlights strong cooperation and high-level dialogue between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

At the recent Pakistan-Turkiye-Azerbaijan Trilateral Summit, held alongside the SCO Summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz proposed the creation of tripartite institutional mechanisms to boost economic and investment cooperation among the three nations.

He also emphasised the importance of Pakistan’s fraternal ties with Turkiye and Azerbaijan, which are rooted in deep cultural, historical, and religious bonds, as well as mutual respect and support on key issues. The summit was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.

In addition, in April this year, the first direct flight of Azerbaijan Airlines from Baku arrived at Karachi airport, carrying approximately 90 passengers.
