ISLAMABAD – Huge number of tourists are set to visit the snow-capped hills of Murree, Galiyat and adjoining areas to enjoy snowfall on New Year’s Eve and now authorities are chalking out a strategy to avoid any untoward incident.

In light of snowfall and chilly weather on New Year’s Eve, the interim government directed local authorities to finalise a contingency plan for the country’s famous hill station.

A meeting was held by Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha, who directed all concerned departments for necessary preparations.

Around 150 traffic police personnel have been deployed to ensure traffic flow and for all-out facilities for tourists.

Officials cautioned all officials against taking leave during tourists season. Furthermore, more than a dozen facilitation centres have been formed to facilitate tourists.

The local authorities have displayed screens within Murree, where masses will get messages and updates about weather while a helpline has also been provided by the tourism department.

To ensure flow of traffic, administration in monitoring room will observe traffic, especially number of vehicles entering the hill station.

In previous years, it was difficult to find accommodation during the tourist season, and in 2022 21 people were died after heavy snow trapped them in their vehicles. Many of them died of hypothermia, while local administration failed to clear the roads to rescue the stranded personnel.
