To address the deteriorating cleanliness and road infrastructure issues in the city, Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with overseeing the actions of relevant departments. Under the supervision of Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi, a comprehensive review meeting was convened to assess various civic issues plaguing the city. It was decided that waste dumping sites near busy roads and drains would be relocated to alternate locations wherever possible. Additionally, street lights would be installed on roads deprived of adequate illumination.
The prevalent issues arising from the dilapidation of roads and resulting traffic difficulties were thoroughly examined, and a list of roads in urgent need of repair was compiled by the Deputy Commissioners. Over 600 damaged roads have been identified for immediate maintenance, with repair work scheduled to commence from Thursday onwards. During the meeting, Chief Engineer of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Tariq Mughal, briefed the attendees on road maintenance. It was decided that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation would coordinate road maintenance activities in consultation with the relevant Deputy Commissioners. Priority would be given to expediting repairs on roads of immediate concern.
Key officials from various departments, including Managing Director of Solid Waste Management Board, Imitaz Ali Shah, and Chief Operating Officer of Water and Sewerage Board, Asadullah Khan, participated in the meeting alongside all Deputy Commissioners and Municipal Commissioners of Town Municipal Corporations. Commissioner Naqvi emphasized the pivotal role of Karachi administration in improving the city’s condition.
He urged Deputy Commissioners to establish effective communication and collaboration with urban development and municipal institutions to ensure the fulfillment of their duties. Furthermore, it was decided that Deputy Commissioners would monitor the attendance of staff responsible for cleanliness tasks and take disciplinary action against those displaying consistent negligence.
